Advisory and Training Assistance

The Silesian Library holds a status of the main regional public library in the Śląskie (Silesian) Voivodeship. This is why the Library provides help and exercises substantive supervision over activities of the network of public libraries in the Śląskie Voivodeship (815 central and branch libraries). Advisory and training services offered by the Silesian Library include:

  • help & advice (on the premises or in the libraries) in the area of:
    • acquisitions, collection development and cataloguing,
    • organization and management in libraries,
    • library automation,
    • promotion of reading,
    • preservation of library collections,
    • reporting and statistics in libraries;
  • organization of vocational training and other forms of professional development (such as workshops, courses, seminars and conferences);
  • conducting studies in reading, compiling reports, assessments and analyses of the activities of public libraries in the Śląskie Voivodeship;
  • cooperation with local self-government bodies, working out suggestions of organizational changes in the area of public librarianship;
  • initiation and coordination of reading projects held at the regional level, cooperation with organizers of nationwide reading projects, promotion of libraries in the mass media;
  • compilation and publication of training materials to help librarians develop their professional skills;
  • cooperation with poviat public libraries in performing functions for public self-government libraries of the lowest territorial level;
  • coordination in the Śląskie Voivodeship Nationwide programs.

    These are virtual thematic collections presenting selected stationary exhibitions or presenting library collections, including documents and objects. The collections are constantly supplemented with presentations, multimedia shows and photocasts.
