From August 3rd to 30th, 2026, the Silesian Library will be closed (main building at Plac Rady Europy 1 in Katowice) due to the reinstallation of the system (Integro library catalogue) and maintenance work on the High Storage Warehouse.

• Book orders and loans will not be fulfilled during this period. The deadline for returning materials borrowed in July will be extended until September.
• Book returns can be processed on an ongoing basis using the drop box. Returns will be registered in the reader’s account after the system has been completely reinstalled.
• Orders submitted to the book machine can be collected until July 31st, 2026 (last orders can be submitted until July 29th, 2026, 5.00 pm).
• On August 1st, 2026 (Saturday), orders for processing will be accepted until 1.00 pm.
• Circulation cards will be confirmed Monday to Friday from 8.00 am to 2.00 pm – library entrance from Damrota Street (contact at the security point), after complete reinstallation of the system.

How to borrow board games?

• you have to be a registered member of the Silesian Library,
• you need a valid library account in the Silesian Library,
• be sure there are no charges on your library account,
• you can maximumly borrow two games for 14 days, not returning them on time is charged PLN 1.00 per day, the fees can be paid in the Circulation Department (pl. Rady Europy 1) or by bank transfer to the library account (the refund is considered the moment of delivery of the game to the Library Bibliotherapy Department Ligonia 7, Katowice),
• returned games have to be complete and undamaged,
• more details you will find in the rules of using the collections.

Users have tw computers with Internet access at their disposal.

Media collection, available on-site and lent outside, includes:

• literature in German, with particular emphasis on the crime novel, also books in the field of classic German literature, non-fiction, poetry, drama and selected dictionaries and encyclopedias,
• German-language literature for children and teenagers,
• a selection of materials for learning German – from level A to C, as well as other educational publications supporting learning German for students and teachers
• board games, interactive games and sets of blocks supporting the learning of the German language,
• magazines: “Der Spiegel”, “Gehirn&Geist”, “Spektrum der Wissenschaft”, “Psychologie Heute”.

The condition for using the collection is to have a valid reader’s card from the Silesian Library. Other library materials are not available in Mediateka.

The media library will organize events and meetings promoting German culture and literature, including meetings with writers and book promotions. There will be classes for children and teenagers in the field of learning German and methodological workshops for teachers. There are also planned library lessons presenting the activities of the Institute addressed to people learning German, as well as those interested in German culture.

Open during the Silesian Library’s opening hours (without Saturdays).
