Institute of Intermedia Culture
The Institute of Intermedia Culture of the Silesian Library was established in 2018. It organises literary events, meetings, conferences, discussions, workshops, festivals and competitions related to the correspondence of arts: visual arts and literature, visual arts and popular culture.
The task of the Institute of Intermedia Culture is also establishing contacts with institutions, publishing houses, agencies, writers, illustrators or art educators, acquiring partners for own events, preparing applications and projects promoting the Silesian Library and reading as well as creating space for reading animation. The Institute of Intermedia Culture coordinates both the activities of its subordinate departments and the participation of the Silesian Library in external events (festivals, book fairs, reading events, etc.).
All social groups are the beneficiaries of the cultural and educational offer of the Institute of Intermedia Culture of the Silesian Library:
- Children and young people – cultural and social activation mainly through workshops or artistic campaigns that not only contribute to deepening knowledge, but above all, are a tool for shaping self-awareness, developing creativity and the need to contact art through various forms of self-expression.
- Adults – improving the social and cultural competences of the region’s residents through public artistic campaigns, training sessions and workshops.
- Seniors – improving social and cultural competences by learning and interacting with new techniques of self-expression; preventing digital exclusion.
The recipients are also specialists: librarians, artists, teachers, cultural animators, representatives of NGOs, representatives of author bookshops from the region, etc.
Academy of Creative Reading – as part of the Institute of Intermedia Culture, both in the Silesian Library and in public libraries in the Silesian Voivodeship, meetings will be organised under the name Academy of Creative Reading.
This is a project aimed at readers, which teaches them to think about literature in a subjective way, to discover it anew and to read books critically. An important form of reading – resulting from the needs of young people – is combining books with visual arts, which is an interesting cultural phenomenon.
