Alfred Szklarski Memorial Study

A specially arranged memorial study of Alfred Szklarski, the author of youth literature, has been created in the Silesian Library. It is located in the library building at ul. Francuska 12 and commemorates the author of the series about the adventures of Tomek Wilmowski. Among other things, visitors can see a desk and a typewriter, the writer’s favourite jacket, a collection of pipes and souvenirs from various parts of the world there.

Alfred Szklarski Memorial Study offers tours and workshops for groups of recipients of various ages and individuals. The creation of this unique location was intended to commemorate the well-known author Alfred Szklarski. Since 1945, he had a strong connection with Katowice, where the most popular novels about Tomasz Wilmowski, the protagonist of many books by Szklarski, were written. For this reason, a study devoted to the author’s literary achievements was reconstructed in the Silesian Library. We have established an area in the library building at Francuska 12 where the writer’s memory can be preserved through artistic, literary, and educational pursuits.

Visits to the study are possible by prior arrangement.

As part of the “Fields of View of a Book” project, implemented in 2017 by the Silesian Library House of Education, a map “Traces of Alfred Szklarski in Katowice” was developed.
