Instructional and methodological support

The Silesian Library, which has the status of a regional library, takes care and exercises substantial supervision over the network of municipal libraries in the Silesian Voivodeship. Its instructional and methodological activities include:

  • methodological assistance (in the form of on-site and field consultations), including:
    • collecting and processing collections,
    • organisation and management of libraries,
    • automation of library processes,
    • promotion of reading,
    • protection of library collections,
    • reporting and collecting statistics on the work of libraries;
  • organisation and implementation of training and other forms of professional development for librarians (workshops, courses, seminars, conferences);
  • research on the state of readership and preparing evaluations, analyses and reports on the activity of municipal libraries in the Silesian Voivodeship;
  • cooperation with local governments, formulating and submitting proposals for organisational changes to the organisers of public libraries in the Silesian Voivodeship;
  • initiating reading campaigns at voivodeship level, cooperation with organisers of national events and promotion of library activities in the media;
  • development and publication of methodological aids for the vocational training of librarians;
  • cooperation with county libraries in the implementation of tasks entrusted to them for the benefit of lower-level municipal libraries;
  • coordination of nationwide programmes within the Silesian Voivodeship.

  • Online Exhibitions

    These are virtual thematic collections presenting selected stationary exhibitions or presenting library collections, including documents and objects. The collections are constantly supplemented with presentations, multimedia shows and photocasts.
