The media library was established as a part of the cooperation between the Silesian Library and the Goethe Institute in Krakow. The objective of the project is to enhance our understanding of the German language, culture and literature, as well as to foster an interest in the history and present of Germany and German society.
Media collection, available on-site and lent outside, includes:
- literature in German, with particular emphasis on the crime novel, also books in the field of classic German literature, non-fiction, poetry, drama and selected dictionaries and encyclopedias,
- German-language literature for children and teenagers,
- a selection of materials for learning German – from level A to C, as well as other educational publications supporting learning German for students and teachers
- board games, interactive games and sets of blocks supporting the learning of the German language,
- magazines: “Der Spiegel”, “Gehirn&Geist”, “Spektrum der Wissenschaft”, “Psychologie Heute”.

The condition for using the collection is to have a valid reader’s card from the Silesian Library. Other library materials are not available in Mediateka.
The media library will organize events and meetings promoting German culture and literature, including meetings with writers and book promotions. There will be classes for children and teenagers in the field of learning German and methodological workshops for teachers. There are also planned library lessons presenting the activities of the Institute addressed to people learning German, as well as those interested in German culture.
