Art Reading Room in the Silesian Library House of Education
The Reading Room provides a reference library in the field of education and cultural animation. It was conceived as a friendly and open space, gathering collections useful in broadening interests related to culture and art, both in the context of professional work (including methodological and theoretical positions in the field of animation) and free search for inspiration (exhibition catalogues, albums). Apart from the collection of the Silesian Library there are also publications (catalogues, albums, theoretical items), donated by important centres of culture and art from Poland and abroad
Moreover, the reading room contains:
- a collection of publications for children and young people, presenting a cross-section of classic and modern book illustration together with a comfortable reading corner for younger readers and their parents,
- a painting collection loaned to the Silesian Library by the BWA Contemporary Art Gallery in Katowice.
The Art Reading Room is complemented by a Reading Terrace adjacent to the Art Integration Lounge.
Since 2014, the Art Reading Room has belonged to the Art Library Consortium, initiated by the Media Library of the Szczecin Art Academy, which brings together libraries and institutions that collect and provide access to art collections.
The collections are made available only on site after the user is entered in the visitors’ log. It is not possible to photocopy materials, but you can take photos with your own camera after informing the librarian in advance.
