Research and Scholarly Activity

The Silesian Library is a regional public library of research status. According to the Regulation of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, it belongs to the group of research libraries in Poland that collect and provide access to a specialized library collection of a research character and employ librarians conducting research and scholarly activity, as well as disseminating the results of their research.

One of the essential tasks of the Silesian Library is to initiate, conduct, and publish research and scholarly works in the fields of library science, information science, and related fields, with particular emphasis on the Silesian collection.

Within the structure of the Silesian library, the following specialized entities also operate and conduct scientific research: the Regional Research Institute and the Institute of Architecture Documentation. The Silesian library conducts academic conferences, realizes research and popularization projects, cooperates with other scientific and academic institutions, and publishes books (e.g., the series “Folia Scientica Bibliothecae Silesianae” and “Silesianka Przedstawia”), as well as the scientific journal “Książnica Śląska”.


  • Online Exhibitions

    These are virtual thematic collections presenting selected stationary exhibitions or presenting library collections, including documents and objects. The collections are constantly supplemented with presentations, multimedia shows and photocasts.
